Happy Darwin Day! Charles Darwin's 200th birthday is Feb. 12, and his concept of evolution has revolutionized science. Many of his ideas have been validated by modern science including DNA analysis, our understanding of mutations, and the fact that during our lifetimes, we have witnessed the real evolution of bacteria becoming resistant to drugs. His ideas have also stirred some of the most controversy in the field of science since Galileo and Copernicus declared that the Sun is the center of the solar system and not the Earth. While the Sun-centered system is no longer a religious controversy - (it used to be!) - the ideas of evolution certainly are tied up with religious belief and doctrine. No matter where you stand on this issue - naturalist Charles Darwin certainly has made an impact on our lives and the way science is taught.
The school wide Science Fair competition is over!! It was a successful event due to the hard work of our students. There were some fantastic projects and I know our winners will do well at regional competition! Good Luck Winners!!
Contact Information:
Parents and students can contact me at this Email address:
I can also be contacted by phone via the school: (318)221-2501 (Please read the following note!)
A note to parents: I respond to Emails more quickly than I do to phone messages. It is often very difficult to access the phone during my planning period (2nd hour 9:30 to 10:35 am) due to the fact I am trying to prepare for a lab, the next lecture, running off papers, or grading papers. I also have to compete for phone time with other staff members. Naturally, if you would prefer a phone call, I will do this, but I have found the majority of issues are easily taken care of through Email. Please feel free to contact me at any time.
Makeup Opportunities:
I follow parish policy concerning make up work: If the student is absent 1 - 3 days, then they have three days to make up the work. If the student is absent 4 or more days, that is how many days they get to make up the work. If a test was given on the day of absence and the student did not miss any days prior to test day, the test must be made up on the day of return. It is the student's responsibility to get make up work. I provide a calender and a file of any hand outs for my students. I will not remind them to make up their work. As adolescents and honors students, I expect them to keep up with their own responsibilities.
Extra Help:
I am almost always here for an hour after school to answer questions and help students, but the best way to get extra help is to make an after school appointment and I can dedicate my time to you.
